Build an application learning routine

A tracker can do more than count applications: it can show where you progress and what preparation remains.

Define your stages

Distinguish a saved listing from an application you submitted. Record the company, role, URL, date and next step. Check company and role together so duplicate adverts do not become imaginary extra opportunities.

Create a small routine you control

Divide your weekly time between research, tailoring and practice. Track meaningful work completed rather than committing to a quota you cannot sustain. Choose follow-up dates using the employer’s information and your own schedule.

Interpret responses carefully

Silence alone does not prove your CV is poor. A role may have closed, priorities may have shifted or the process may be slower. Do not draw firm conclusions from a handful of applications; review CV versions, channels and interview questions together.

Turn reading into an output

  1. Add actual records to the application tracker.
  2. Write a next step for every open record.
  3. Set aside time for a weekly review.
